No Democracy Here
Liad Hussein Kantorowicz, Germany, 2018, 25min. Hebrew with English subtitles, HD

Set in a university in China, Normal is a mockumentary about a Student Union general election meeting with an unexpected ending: Trigger warning for those sensitive to Chinese propaganda!

Shot on and around election day 2013 in Israel, No Democracy Here documents filmmaker Liad giving her submissives a lesson in democracy, using BDSM practices as an allegorical critique. The film includes the submissives’ candid right-wing opinions and ends with Liad forcing them to vote for the “correct” party. (PF)

Liad Hussein Kantorwicz//LIADLAND is a musician, an artist, a perpetual migrant, a queer trash diva, and a master of the margins. Her political work focuses on intersectional feminism, queer struggles, Palestine liberation and sex workers' rights.

Fluidø

Shu Lea Cheang, USA, Germany 2017, 80 Min., English with German subtitles
Followed by a talk with Jürgen Brüning (Producer of FLUIDØ)

2060, the government has declared an AIDS-free era. Mutated viruses give rise to ZERO GEN, a gender-fluid group with unique genetic traits. Fluidø unfolds a complex battle involving underground drug lords, glitched agents, and a corrupt government. The film includes explicit representations of bodies and sex, and showcases multiple layers of political power dynamics. In the words of Paul B. Preciado, “in the era of global confinement, digital sexuality, and sanitary surveillance, this queer, cypherpunk science-fiction film “has become the archeology of our present.” (PF)

Jürgen Brüning is a Berlin-based film producer, director and founder of Pornfilmfestival Berlin.
