Please join us to welcome back the Center’s Emerging Leaders Program fellows Xiaogang Wei and Popo Fan, and a screening of their new short films. Followed by Q&A session where the filmmakers will share more about their camp aesthetics and on-going activism.

The Drum Tower (18’, 2018), directed by Popo Fan, depicted the connection between a high school senior and a transgender vintage shop owner at the historical hutong in Beijing.

Beer! Beer! (17’, 2019) and Lerne Deutsch in meiner Küche (2’, 2020) directed by Popo Fan, both shot in Berlin with queer Chinese diaspora perspective looking into racism discourse.

China PK Queen (37’, 2021), directed by Xiaogang Wei, takes us to an insight view of the daily life of a China live-streaming drag queen, where they have to prove their talents and skills while fighting against prejudices and discrimination.

A panel afterward will be moderated by filmmaker Barney Cheng.
