🎦Film Synopsis:
The VaChina Monologues
China 2013 28mins Documentary
In 2003, Sun Yat-sen University staged the first Chinese performance of The Vagina Monologues, sparking a feminist movement across mainland China. Different university groups performed the play everywhere: campuses, theaters, cafes, streets, and public transit. The play received playful local names like "Cloudy Vagina" and "Our Vaginas", all boldly featuring the word "vagina". Ten years later, this documentary revisits the participants, exploring how this performance became a journey of self-awakening, public dialogue, and local resistance. "Vagina. I've said it" became more than words—it was an act of empowerment.
